Thursday Nights at Babydoll’s we highlight Albuquerque’s best and brightest jazz & blues singers and musicians! This week we proudly present solo master electric violinist Robb Janov.
Robb Janov is not easy to categorize. He's a D'Addario Orchestral artist, a PBS NewsHour-featured educator, a Netflix and Nickelodeon music coach, and an actor who has shared the screen with Natalie Portman, Ed Harris and Minka Kelly. On stage, he does something audiences have to see to believe — building a thunderous full-band sound live from scratch, through electric violin and vocal live-looping, solo, start to finish.
As a Performer Robb captivates audiences building live-looped, immersive grooves that pulse with soul, spontaneity, and joy. His performances roam freely across genres from gypsy jazz and Latin to rock, soul and funk-fusion, animated by a deep, uninhibited musicality that stops people in their tracks. He has performed at Meow Wolf, Jazz Under the Stars, the International Balloon Fiesta, and TEDxABQ. He was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for four seasons and performed with Indiana University's orchestras.
As an Educator Robb is the creator of the national award-winning 'Rock and Rhythm' program, which emboldens and inspires underserved public school students through innovative music education. The 27-year program’s success, featured on the PBS Newshour, ¡Colores!, and in his TEDx Talk, has served as a model for music programs throughout the USA. To expand the program's reach, he launched the Rock & Rhythm Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
