This week we proudly welcome Indie Folk Français band, Bébé La La!
New Mexico's own award-winning Indie Folk Français band, Bébé La La, features singer-songwriter, guitarist, violist, Alicia Ultan's original folk inspired "art" songs, and vocalist, songwriter, accordionist Maryse Lapierre's French influences. Formed in 2010, they have, over the years, developed a unique and lovely repertoire that includes their beautiful melodic originals, French ballads, jazz and pop songs, cajun tunes and more, and, always at the core, are their signature "stunning" harmonies. Their music was described by music and art writer James Mahoney as "Wild—Alternative—Magic!” and their richly varied performances and warm, joyful rapport with one another and with their audiences continue to garner praise. Bébé La La has received numerous New Mexico Music Awards, including two each for their 2015 debut release, High Wire, and their 2022 follow up, A Curious Series of Unexpected Events, which also earned 7 nominations. Poet T.A. Niles wrote, "From where I sit, A Curious Series of Unexpected Events is an album for our times, of times past, and it seeks to will us into a more magical future.” Guest artists who have appeared on their recordings include renowned jazz trumpeter Bobby Shew (with whom they also performed a sold-out concert for the Corrales concert series), New York based jazz saxophonist Javon Jackson, and trombonist/band leader César Bauvallet, among many others. Bébé La La has performed at many venues and events throughout New Mexico, including Unit B and Paradiso in Santa Fe, AMP Concerts events, the International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque Folk Festival, Albuquerque Sunport Serenade Series, the Outpost Performance Space and more. In November 2025, they celebrated their 15-year anniversary of performing and recording together with a sold-out concert at the Outpost. Rounding out their already richly textured music are their longtime band members, bassist Micky Patten and drummer Joe Chellman, both versatile and in-demand players on the New Mexico music scene.
